Blog Post #4 - Text Messaging… Does it help or hinder student writing?

April 29, 2008

I think texting is going to be the future language, as far as writing goes.

On a regular day I send and receive about 100 to 150 text messages. And to about 5 to 10 different people, depending on the day.

At this point I would say that my writing has not really been affected, sometimes I do have to go back over my writing and change some small mistakes that I would in a text message.

I guess it doesn’t really have a place in any of these. It is, for many people, there number one source of communication.

I guaranty that it isn’t making any impart on the face-to-face or any spoken word conversations.

Blog #5 - My trip to Greece

April 29, 2008

It started with a long 12 hour flight that went from Los Angeles, California to Heathrow airport in London, England. This was only the beginning of the adventure, one of the longest trips I’ve ever been on in my life.

The trip to the house that my family owns on the island of Lesvos, Greece was just about the most fun I’ve had with my grandparents. Going from Los Angeles, California to Heathrow airport in London, England; from there we took a 3 hour bus ride to Gatwick airport of the other side of London. Then we got a hotel for the night to get up the next morning at 6:00 a.m. to take another 3 hour flight to the great island of Lesvos, Greece and then one more 45 minute drive from the airport to the house in a small, little village called Ipsilemetipoo.

Although it took a long time to get to this place, I was really excited to be there. This had been my dream ever since I found out that my family had owned a house in Greece. Finally right before my 13th birthday, my grandfather told me that I could go that year to Greece. I was very excited because not only did I get to go but we where going to be there during my birthday meaning I was going to be able to have my birthday in a whole different continent.

The time that I spent there was fun. Right when I arrived at the house I met my cousin who lives there and he told me that I could hang out with him instead of my old grandparents and that he would show me around the island. He took me to cool beaches during the day and some bars almost every night. The bars in Greece are much different then the bars in the U.S. where kids aren’t allowed and a lot of people go there just to get drunk. The bars in Greece are more of a place to go and hang out with your friend or family and anyone at any age can drink alcohol.
